I have a horror story to tell about Englewood Jewelers in Englewood, FL Owner Kevin Donlon. I took in my Lapis and Diamond wedding ring to have the lapis repaired/replaced. I was assured by the owner that he was competent and able to make the repair. When I went back to pick up the ring, it was immediately obvious that he had destroyed my wedding ring. I should have gone back in the store and confronted him, but he had been so belligerent on the phone, prior to me picking up the ring, that I did not think it would be wise. Of course I was very emotional and upset when I saw the condition of my ring, that I did not think I would be able to compose myself, so I did not go back in, instead I contacted the original Master Goldsmith in Colorado that made the ring for me years ago and asked if I could mail the ring to him to look at it and let me know what needed to be done to make it right. This is his response to me; "After Steven carefully inspected the condition of the ring, it is his recommendation that the ring be re-made. When the ring was re-inlaid with lapis the channels for the lapis were polished down too far. By doing this the new inlay is very thin and that is why it is chipping out. Also it looks as if they removed the center stone to do this work and in doing so they pushed the diamond too far in the channel so that it hit next to the baguette in the wedding band. This not only put a huge chip in the baguette, but also chipped the center stone. By re-making the ring Steven can make sure the channels for the lapis are deep enough to take the proper thickness of stone. Since the chip on the baguette is very noticeable and might break upon removal, it needs to be replaced. The chip on the center stone could possibly be hidden when it is re-set properly. Several thousands of dollars later, I have my wedding ring back and it is gorgeous. If I had to do it all over again, I would have had photos taken prior to having the work done. If I had done that, I would now have grounds for a lawsuit. But I didn't and therefore I don't.
